My Daniel is home from Uganda!!! The closer to his return, the harder it got somehow. But Tuesday morning early, I got to hug my son and welcome him home. My heart is overflowing with gratitude to the Lord of heaven and earth who sent him there and brought him back safely, who watched over him every second of every day, and once again gloriously showed Himself faithful to His word. Every bit of the psalm (Psalm 41:1-3) Daniel gave me before he left was true and came to pass.
He is changed. He saw the ugliness of evil, and grew into a deeper awareness of God being the I AM. Daniel came back with the real sense that God is the I AM for all that we need, the I AM life to those who are dying, the I AM provision to the poor. He is bread to the hungry, water to the thirsty, joy to the ones who mourn, and strength to the weak. He is “I AM that I AM,” and that is enough for all that life could ever throw at us.
I look at his pictures of beautiful African children in an orphanage filled with joy because they now have a second shirt, or a doll, or a piece of candy. I look at the faces of those who survived the massacre of their families and have been redeemed from the pit of destruction. I listen to his stories filled with miracles, overflowing with human tragedies and Godly interventions, and I want to fall on my face before God and thank Him for being God in such a dark hour. Thank Him because He is the great I AM indeed.
