Appreciative Inquiry

There is a very interesting book out there written by D. Cooperrider and D. Whitney called Appreciative Inquiry. It speaks to businesses, but the point can be taken for each one of us in life. First, the authors point out how in order to make progress, we always analyze what is not working, and try to work with that. They say that we ought not to try fixing what is wrong, but emphazise the strengths and let them take care of the issues at hand. Use your strengths, develop them and they in turn will take care of the weaknesses in the system.
Well, that makes a lot of sense to me, and I have begun to work with this simple concept in my own life. It mirrors what the Scriptures say: be involved with the Light, and the Light will take care of the darkness. We don’t need to fight the darkness, we simply need to bring in the light! The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness does not overpower it. No matter how tiny the beam of light might be, it still is stronger than the darkness in that area. So we are to focus on the light.
Where is there light in your life? Well, the Word of God and Jesus Himself are my light and my salvation. So I’d say I’m in a pretty good place.
