It’s as simple as making a lasagna, just layer the stuff and let it cook–basically! My husband and I created a lasagna garden this week-end. First we framed it with 4×4’s, then we covered the grass with newspaper, then a layer of dirt, then a huge layer of dead leaves from last fall. We followed that with more dirt, and a thick layer of grass clippings, and finished with another layer of dirt. The garden is close to 2 feet tall! Last but not least, we fenced it in so that our friends the deer wouldn’t be too tempted. When it was all done, we gently planted our little seedlings and watered them. I soaked the beans overnight and planted them one by one the next day. Now we are admiring our lovely garden and cheering our baby plants on. It is so simple, yet exhilarating–I’m not quite sure why. Life in our yard. I love it! We have broccoli, tomatoes, hot and sweet peppers, zucchini, cucumbers, butternut squash, pumpkin, cauliflower, black and green beans. And a couple of sunflowers for good measure. If you are in the area, stop by for delicious roasted vegetables in a couple of months. We’ll open a bottle of wine and celebrate God’s bounty.
