March 2013 Letter– Dear Home

March 2013 Letter–Dear Home,

You kind of always are in the deepest part of my heart, in that place where everything valuable and precious and wonderful lives. When I travel abroad and thoroughly enjoy it, you have a way of beckoning me to come back to you. When I sense that my life is about to lose its balance, you find a way to anchor me and keep me from falling. And when my soul is filled with a song of pure joy, you paint your walls with color, and you smile knowingly.

You kind of always are in the back of my mind. When my days are so full that I can hardly think, you remain a safe place on the inside of me, and I know that at night, I will come back to you.

You anchor me in the midst of the storms.

You make me long for you like I long for my husband, or a friend, or a hug, or a smile when I’m sad.

And I know that you are only a “thing,” with no life of your own; stones and wood and nails and pipes. But you stand as my home, and you make me feel safe. Yes, you are burnable, breakable, ridiculously damageable by time, and weather, and life and the mistakes of men. Oh, I know how that is, I lost you once before.

Yet in you in feel safe.

You have witnessed the growth of my wings, and my victory against personal demons and the strengthening of the core of who I am. You have seen all of me, all that I hide from others, for nothing is hidden behind your thick walls. You have been a haven from storms, a place to recharge, a channel of joy and a springboard for life.

I get you and you get me. Thank you for all that you are to me,

Barbara
