Boys, you are going to feel like you are 10 feet tall and nothing is impossible to you. And you are going to swing and hit the ball and run and score and do your little victory dance. And you are going to swing and miss and fall right on your butt. And cry. And your dads, they will be there.
Boys, you are going to feel like you know better than anyone what’s right for you. You are going to be stubborn and push and push and push until your dads wearily give in. And you are going to be stubborn and push and push and push and lose because your dads, they love you too much.
Flesh of their flesh, they will not let you go.
Boys, you were born in a dangerous place. But your dads, they will fight for you. Protect you. Love you fiercely. Shape you into men like them.
Men who love with integrity. Men who fight for what is right. Men who bow the knee to their Maker with humility.
Boys, you were born in a dangerous place. But my grand’ma’s heart is at peace; you are in good hands.
